El International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP) ha presentado en Brasil y Colombia una demanda por crímenes de guerra contra el embajador de Sri Lanka en varios países de América Latina, Jagath Jayasuriya, por su papel en la fase final de la guerra civil de su país en 2009. La denuncia, presentada este lunes 28 de agosto de 2017 en Brasilia y Bogotá, alega que el General Jayasuriya tiene responsabilidad criminal como la máxima autoridad de las unidades militares que cometieron ataques contra hospitales, y actos de tortura y violencia sexual, desapariciones forzosas y ejecuciones extrajudiciales.  

The International Truth and Justice Project has filed war crimes charges in Brazil and Colombia against Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Latin America, Jagath Jayasuriya, for his role in the final phase of the civil war in 2009. The lawsuit filed in Brasilia and Bogotá on Monday 28 August 2017 alleges that General Jayasuriya bears individual criminal responsibility as the commander of units that committed repeated attacks on hospitals, acts of torture and sexual violence, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
